Ghungroo

How complete is Ghungroo?

Nobody has a full list of the world's dances. Many have never been written down, and many villages have their own. So Ghungroo shows its working.

Where the list comes from

Every item that Wikidata classes as a type of dance and that has an English Wikipedia article; every article under Wikipedia's dance categories, country by country; and our own list of the dances each country is known for, so that small countries are not crowded out by large ones.

Country overviews written: 41 of 49. Photos: 362 of 439 dances have a free-licence photo; the rest show a drawing until one is found.

New pages are written every day, best documented first, with each continent taking its turn. Wikidata and Wikipedia are re-read every week for dances added since.

What is missing

Dances with no English Wikipedia article are not here yet. That leaves out a great many village and community dances, and it favours countries that are well covered in English. By continent so far: Asia 138, Europe 106, North America 82, South America 49, Africa 37, Oceania 19.

Countries with the fewest dances so far: Andorra (0), Bahrain (0), Botswana (0), Burkina Faso (0), Cameroon (0), Central African Republic (0), Chad (0), Comoros (0), Djibouti (0), El Salvador (0), Equatorial Guinea (0), Eritrea (0), Gabon (0), Greenland (0), Grenada (0), Guatemala (0), Guinea (0), Guinea-Bissau (0), Guyana (0), Kiribati (0).

If you know a dance we should add, write to ghungroo@cleartrust.cc.

The weekly round

Every Monday: seven dances you may not know, what the world is dancing this week, and one way of dancing explained.
