Locking
A funk street dance of fast arm and hand movements that stop suddenly in held positions.
Also: campbellocking
Locking was created by Don Campbell in Los Angeles around 1970. The story goes that he paused in the middle of a move he could not finish, and the pause became the style. A locker moves quickly, then freezes for a beat, or locks, before carrying on. Typical moves include wrist rolls, pointing and knee drops. The mood is playful and the dancer often plays to the audience. His group, The Lockers, brought it to television in the 1970s.
