Partnering

The skills two dancers use to support, balance, turn and lift each other.

Also: partner work, pas de deux work

Partnering covers everything dancers do while sharing weight or contact. In ballet, one dancer steadies the other in long balances and turns and raises them in lifts. In ballroom and social dances it means the constant exchange of signals through the frame. In contemporary dance and contact improvisation, any dancer may support any other, and weight is given and taken in both directions. Good partnering depends on timing and trust more than on strength.
