Samba no pé
The solo samba step of Brazilian carnival: very fast small steps with a rolling action of the hips.
Also: passista
Samba no pé means samba in the foot. It is the basic solo step danced in the carnival parades of Rio de Janeiro. The feet make three quick weight changes to every two beats, staying close to the ground, while the knees bend and straighten and the hips swing. The upper body stays relaxed and the arms move freely. A passista is a dancer of a samba school chosen for outstanding skill at it. Passistas parade in a group of their own, often in high heels and feathers.
