Shuffle
A basic tap step: the ball of the foot brushes forward and back, making two quick sounds.
Also: tap shuffle
The shuffle is one of the first steps a tap dancer learns. The working leg swings from the knee, and the metal tap under the ball of the foot strikes the floor on the way forward and again on the way back. The two sounds come close together. Shuffles are joined to other small steps to build longer patterns, such as the shuffle ball change and the time step. The word is also used for unrelated moves in other styles, such as the Melbourne shuffle in club dancing.
